Pachypodium Lameri
The Madagascan Palm is actually not a true palm ,but a large succulent growing up to 6m over a very long period.
Will grow to about 2m in a pot.
Suitable for hot dry locations, requiring little water.
It has bright green leaves and a very thorny stem.
During summer beautiful, large, white flowers resembling a frangipani emerge from the top of the plant.
Madagascar Palms thrive in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate full sun. They are ideal for both indoor settings near sunny windows and outdoor environments with good sunlight. Make sure the plant gets at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily.
This plant prefers warm, dry conditions, typical of its native desert environment. It grows best in temperatures between 18°C and 30°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C, as it is not frost-tolerant.
Plant the Madagascar Palm in well-draining soil. A mix of cactus or succulent potting soil with added sand or perlite ensures proper drainage and prevents water retention, which can lead to root rot.
Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Dilute the fertiliser to half strength to avoid over-fertilising, which can damage the plant.
