Fiddle Leaf Fig

Ficus Lyrata

The Fiddle Leaf Fig is a popular indoor plant admired for its large, violin-shaped leaves with prominent veins and glossy, dark green surfaces. Its upright growth habit and architectural foliage make it a standout feature in both indoor and outdoor settings. When grown indoors, it typically reaches up to 3 meters in height, making it an ideal focal point in modern interiors. Native to the tropical rainforests of Western Africa, the Fiddle Leaf Fig thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers well-drained soil. While it can be grown outdoors in warmer climates, it’s a favorite indoor plant due to its dramatic appearance and ability to adapt to various conditions.

Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Fiddle Leaf Fig thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, but avoid prolonged exposure to prevent leaf burn. It's perfect for well-lit indoor spaces like living rooms or offices.

Climate

This plant prefers warm and humid conditions, similar to its native tropical environment. It grows best in temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Keep it away from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.

Soil Type

Plant Fiddle Leaf Fig in well-draining soil. A mix of indoor potting soil with added perlite or peat moss will ensure proper drainage and aeration.

Fertilizer

Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilising in the autumn and winter when the plant's growth slows down.

Plant Care

Watering

Maintain consistently moist soil, allowing the top 2-3 cm to dry out before watering again. Reduce watering during cooler months to prevent excess moisture buildup and root rot.

Pruning

Trim regularly to shape the plant and encourage fuller growth. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to keep the plant looking vibrant and healthy.

Pests

Inspect frequently for pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Treat infestations early using neem oil or insecticidal soap. Proper airflow around the plant helps prevent fungal infections and promotes overall health.
