Dracaena fragrans massangeana.
The Happy Plant, also known as Dracaena fragrans, thrives in a spot with bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but will grow more slowly. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. It is ideal for indoor growing but can also be placed in a shaded outdoor area.
Happy Plants prefer a warm, humid environment. They do best in temperatures between 18-24°C. Protect them from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for houseplants or a combination of peat, pine bark, and perlite works well. Ensure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.
Fertilise your Happy Plant every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser. Reduce feeding during the autumn and winter months.
Maintain consistently moist soil but avoid overwatering. Allow the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry slightly before watering. During the cooler months, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows.
Trim away yellowing or dead leaves to support healthy growth. If the stems become too tall or sparse, cut them back to encourage a more compact and bushier appearance.
Check for pests such as spider mites, scale insects, and mealybugs. Treat infestations promptly using neem oil or insecticidal soap. Good air circulation helps prevent fungal issues and keeps the plant thriving.
