Indoor gardening certainly isn't new, but it has recently surged in popularity with younger generations captivated by the vibrant images of lush houseplants flooding social media platforms like Instagram (#indoorplants #houseplantsofinstagram).

Bringing the outside in will add beauty and a fresh energy to your indoor space. Not only do they look beautiful but decorating with houseplants brings many other benefits: they help purify the air; add oxygen; reduce stress; and can even increase productivity!

Whether you're decorating your home, office or business, Ross Evans Garden Centres have a massive variety of indoor plants to choose from. Visit our amazing shade houses and wander amongst lush and tranquil spaces that showcase our indoor plant collection.

Some of our favourite indoor plants to get you started are Zanzibar gem, peperomia, monstera deliciosa, golden pothos, peace lily, mother-in-law's tongue, heartleaf philodendron, kentia and rhapis palms…. there are so many more to choose from! For more inspiration, visit the shade house spaces at our garden centres to see a huge variety of indoor plants. Our staff will be happy to assist you with any questions!

Depending on the type of indoor plant you have, watering can range from twice a week to once every two weeks. Always check the soil before watering and note how quickly it drains. If the top inch of soil is dry, then it’s usually time to water your houseplant. Be sure not to over-water - again by first looking at the soil and the saucer. Check the label that comes with your indoor plant for further info or ask the Ross Evans experts!

Fertilising houseplants will help them grow healthier and look better. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be used every two weeks during active growth periods in spring and summer but reduce frequency in autumn and winter when growth slows down. Check individual plant requirements as some do not need fertiliser at all!

Inspect your plants carefully to understand their needs – observe their leaves or stems for any signs of yellowing, spindly growth, or failure to produce blooms which may indicate a lack of light exposure; drooping, shrivelled, faded, dry, or burnt leaves might mean too much direct sunlight. If this is the case, you may need to try your houseplant in a new spot.

If you have any concerns about your indoor plant, bring a photo and leaf to show the experts at one of our garden centres. We will try to help diagnose the problem!

Yes, there are many indoor plants that help improve air quality! And the bigger and leafier the better. Some of the best plants to help purify indoor air include the peace lily, anthurium, spider plant, golden pothos, philodendron, Boston fern and dracaena.According to a study by NASA, indoor plants can absorb compounds like formaldehyde and benzene from the air while releasing oxygen into your home.We recommend dusting your indoor plant leaves on a regular basis to maximize their effectiveness in helping to clean the air around you. Place your houseplant in the shower or out in the rain every now and again to clean its leaves.
