Rhipsalis are unusual quirky looking plants, some have spaghetti looking leaves others are hairy and some are flat and plastic looking.
Rhipsalis are an understory plant in nature so prefer a light, bright spot out of hot direct midday sun. Some morning sun is fine.
They belong to the cactus family so do not like wet feet, water once a week if in a small pot or let them dry out before re-watering when in a larger pot.
Rhipsalis thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate some shade. It's ideal for indoor settings or shaded outdoor areas. Direct sunlight can scorch its delicate stems, so filtered light is best.
This plant prefers warm, humid conditions, akin to its native tropical environment. It grows well in temperatures ranging from 18°C to 26°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
Plant Rhipsalis in well-draining soil. A mix of cactus potting soil with added perlite or sand ensures proper drainage while retaining necessary moisture.
Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilising in the autumn and winter when the plant's growth slows down.
