Min-a-Min (Murraya paniculata dwarf)

Min-a-Min (Murraya paniculata dwarf)

Min-a-Min is a dwarf Murraya growing to approximately a metre over 5 years.

It has dense small foliage with lime green new growth that makes it ideal for a formal garden, sculpting, hedging or as a shrub.

It tolerates a wide range of soils and prefers full sun to light shade. During the spring and summer it bears masses of perfumed white flowers.

Give it a complete fertiliser at the start of spring and summer to keep it flowering. If you constantly hedge this shrub in the Spring and Summer then you wont see any flower as you will be cutting off the buds, so maybe leave the pruning for longer periods during the warmer months to enjoy the flowers.

Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Murraya paniculata 'Min-a-Min' (Dwarf Mock Orange) thrives in full sun to partial shade. Choose a location that receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily. This compact, dwarf variety is perfect for small hedges, borders, or as a feature plant in small gardens. It also grows well in containers. Ensure the planting site is well-drained to avoid waterlogging, which can damage the roots.

Climate

Murraya 'Min-a-Min' prefers a warm, temperate to tropical climate. It grows best in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. This plant is drought-tolerant once established but will benefit from regular watering during dry periods. Protect young plants from frost, though established plants can tolerate light frosts.

Soil Type

Plant Murraya 'Min-a-Min' in well-draining soil. A sandy or loamy soil enriched with organic matter, such as compost, is ideal. The soil should be slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0-7.0). This plant tolerates a range of soil conditions, but avoid planting in heavy clay or poorly draining soils, as these can lead to root rot.

Fertilizer

Feed Murraya 'Min-a-Min' with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring and again in mid-summer. Organic options, such as compost or well-rotted manure, can also provide essential nutrients. Regular feeding helps to promote dense growth and abundant flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as too much nitrogen can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
