Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Rhapis Palms, also known as Lady Palms, thrive in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate low light conditions but will grow more slowly. They are well-suited for indoor growing but can also be placed in a shaded outdoor area.

Climate

Rhapis Palms prefer a warm, humid environment. They do best in temperatures between 15-25°C. Protect them from cold drafts and temperatures below 5°C.

Soil Type

Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for palms or a combination of peat, pine bark, and perlite works well. Ensure the soil remains moist but not waterlogged.

Fertilizer

Fertilise your Rhapis Palm every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser. Reduce feeding during the autumn and winter months.

Plant Care

Watering

Maintain evenly moist soil but avoid waterlogging. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm feels dry. During the winter months, reduce watering to accommodate the plant’s slower growth phase.

Pruning

Cut away yellowing or dead leaves to keep the plant looking tidy and healthy. If stems grow too tall or sparse, trim them back to encourage a more compact appearance.

Pests

Inspect the plant regularly for pests such as spider mites, scale insects, and mealybugs. Address infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Ensure good airflow around the plant to reduce the likelihood of fungal issues.
