Hedera sp
Ivy is a fast growing evergreen climber or ground cover (in a confined area).
It has ornamental foliage and is suitable for an array of uses from hanging baskets ,indoor pots, as a ground cover or to cover a fence or wall. It can become invasive if not kept under control with regular pruning.
Can be grown in full sun to part shade. Frost tolerant.
English Ivy (*Hedera helix*) thrives in partial to full shade but can tolerate some sun, especially in cooler climates. Choose a location with indirect light or dappled shade for lush foliage. Ivy is ideal for ground cover, climbing on walls, fences, or trellises, and can also be used in hanging baskets. Ensure the planting site has well-draining soil to prevent root rot.
English Ivy is adaptable to a wide range of climates and grows best in temperatures between 10°C and 25°C. It can tolerate frost and will survive winter in temperate regions. In warmer climates, some afternoon shade is beneficial to prevent leaf scorch. Ivy grows year-round in suitable conditions and can create dense coverage on vertical surfaces.
Plant English Ivy in well-draining soil. It adapts well to various soil types, from sandy to loamy, as long as it drains properly. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0) is ideal. Adding organic matter, such as compost, will improve soil structure and promote healthy growth.
Feed English Ivy with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support vigorous growth. An additional feeding in mid-summer can help maintain lush foliage. Organic options, such as compost or well-rotted manure, are also beneficial. Ivy generally requires minimal feeding but will respond well to light fertilising.
