Dracaena deremensis.
Dracaena Janet Craig thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions, making it suitable for indoor environments. Avoid direct sunlight as it can cause the leaves to scorch.
Dracaena Janet Craig prefers a warm, humid environment. Ideal temperatures range between 18-24°C. Protect the plant from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
Use a well-draining potting mix. A combination of peat, pine bark, and perlite is ideal. The soil should remain moist but not waterlogged, as this can lead to root rot.
Fertilise your Dracaena Janet Craig every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when the plant's growth slows.
Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging. Allow the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out slightly before watering. In winter, water less frequently as the plant’s growth rate slows down.
Remove yellowing or dead leaves to keep the plant healthy and attractive. If stems grow too tall or sparse, trim them back to encourage a more compact shape and bushier growth.
Check for pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Use neem oil or insecticidal soap to treat infestations promptly. Good air circulation around the plant helps reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
