Jonno “Bambino” Bougainvillea is a compact bushy shrub with bright magenta bracts.
It requires a warm sunny position and a regular, light, all over pruning after each flush of flowers.
Regular applications of fertiliser high in potash from Spring to Autumn will improve flowering.
Bambino Bougs are a range of smaller growing bougainvillea ideally suited to container growing, topiary, small hedges and smaller gardens.
They can be easily tamed and they’re virtually pest and disease-free.
Jonno 'Bambino' Bougainvillea thrives in full sun. This compact variety is excellent for small gardens, courtyards, and containers. It can also be used as a low hedge or ground cover. Select a location with well-draining soil and good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
Jonno 'Bambino' Bougainvillea prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate. It can withstand light frost once established, but protection from severe frost and cold winds is recommended. Optimal growth occurs in temperatures between 15-30°C. In cooler regions, consider growing it in a pot that can be moved indoors during winter.
This Bougainvillea variety grows best in well-draining soil. Sandy or loamy soils with good organic content are ideal. While it can tolerate poorer soils, it will produce the best blooms in nutrient-rich conditions. Ensure the soil is kept moderately moist but not waterlogged to avoid root rot.
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. During the blooming season, use a high-potassium liquid fertiliser to enhance flowering. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers as they promote foliage growth over flowers. Be cautious not to over-fertilise to prevent root damage.
