Hemigraphis
Hemigraphis, commonly known as the Waffle Plant (*Hemigraphis alternata*), thrives in partial shade to full shade. It is ideal as a ground cover or as an indoor plant, with its distinctive purple and green, crinkled foliage adding color and texture to gardens and containers. Choose a location with indirect light, as direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. Ensure the planting site has well-draining soil, as Waffle Plant prefers moist but not waterlogged conditions.
The Waffle Plant is best suited to warm, tropical to subtropical climates and grows well in temperatures between 18°C and 25°C. It is sensitive to frost, so protect it in colder regions or grow it indoors. In warm climates, it adds vibrant foliage color throughout the year.
Plant Hemigraphis in well-draining, organically rich soil. It adapts well to a range of pH levels, from slightly acidic to neutral (6.0-7.0). Adding compost or peat moss helps retain moisture while ensuring adequate drainage.
Feed the Waffle Plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to support foliage color and growth. For indoor plants, dilute the fertiliser to half strength to prevent over-fertilising.
