Buckinghamia celsissima.
Ivory Curl is a rainforest tree native to Queensland and is ideally suited to gardens of South East Queensland.
They make a great feature tree or street tree growing to around 5-8m in a suburban situation.
Ivory Curl has beautiful, long, cream coloured, fragrant flowers that appear in Autumn.
They are effective in attracting bees and birds into your garden and they don’t seem to suffer from pests and diseases.
Fertilise annually in Spring with a slow release native food.
Being a rainforest tree they do not like frosts at all.
The Ivory Curl Tree flourishes in full sun to partial shade. It is ideal for growing in gardens, as a feature tree, or as a street tree. Ensure the location has well-draining soil and good air circulation to prevent disease.
The Ivory Curl Tree prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate. It can tolerate light frost once established but should be protected from severe frost and cold winds. Ideal temperatures range between 15-30°C.
Use a well-draining soil. Sandy or loamy soils with good organic matter are ideal. This plant is tolerant of poor soils but will thrive in richer conditions. Ensure the soil remains moderately moist but not waterlogged.
Fertilise your Ivory Curl Tree with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. Additional feeding can be done during the growing season with a liquid fertiliser if the plant appears to need a boost.
