Euphorbia "Cowboy Cactus"

Euphorbia “Cowboy Cactus”

These Euphorbias are very popular at the moment.

In the ground or in a pot, the Cowboy provides a great architectural feature with the popular Palm Springs vibe.

They are low maintenace and easy care.

Euphorbias prefer a sunny position in well drained soil or preferably a premium “cacti and succulent ” mix. They can be grown indoors but will need a very well lit spot with good ventilation.

Let them dry out completely before giving them a good watering again.

Give them some slow release fertiliser at the start of Spring.

The Euphorbia “Cowboy Cactus,” also known as Euphorbia ingens or Euphorbia acrurensis, is a striking, low-maintenance succulent often mistaken for a true cactus. Its tall, columnar growth makes it a standout feature in both indoor and outdoor settings. This plant thrives in well-drained soil and sunny conditions, making it perfect for warm climates like South East Queensland. It requires minimal watering, as it prefers to dry out completely between waterings. Additionally, the Cowboy Cactus can reach impressive heights, adding a bold architectural presence to any garden or interior space

Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Euphorbia 'Cowboy Cactus' thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate full sun. It is ideal for indoor settings near windows that receive plenty of sunlight. This plant also does well outdoors in a sunny position.

Climate

This plant prefers warm, dry conditions, similar to desert climates. It grows best in temperatures between 18°C and 30°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C, as it is not frost-tolerant.

Soil Type

Plant Euphorbia 'Cowboy Cactus' in well-draining soil. A cactus or succulent potting mix with added sand or perlite ensures proper drainage and prevents water retention, which can lead to root rot.

Fertilizer

Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Dilute the fertiliser to half strength to avoid over-fertilising, which can damage the plant.
