Somona is a small low maintenance plant suitable for rockeries, balcony pots and garden beds. They require little water and should only be watered once the soil has completely dried out.
Fertilise monthly with a liquid feed to ensure flowers all year round.
They prefer a full sun position.
Euphorbia Somona thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate full sun. It is well-suited for both indoor environments near sunny windows and outdoor settings in well-lit areas. Ensure it receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth.
This plant prefers warm, dry conditions similar to its native desert habitat. It grows best in temperatures between 18°C and 30°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C, as it is not frost-tolerant.
Plant Euphorbia Somona in well-draining soil. A cactus or succulent potting mix with added sand or perlite will ensure proper drainage and prevent water retention, which can lead to root rot.
Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a diluted fertiliser to half strength to avoid over-fertilising, which can damage the plant.
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, approximately every 2-3 weeks, ensuring the soil is well-draining to prevent root rot. Adjust watering frequency during cooler months as the plant’s growth slows.
Remove dead or damaged stems and leaves as necessary to keep the plant looking its best. Exercise caution when pruning, as the sap of Euphorbia can irritate the skin.
