Magnifica trailii is one of the original old Bougainvillea that has bright purple bracts and dark green leaves.
Magnifica is a vigorous evergreen climber/rambler useful for covering walls, sheds, pergolas or fences as security due to its thorns.
Magnifica will grow up to 6m in part to full sun in well drained soil. It can be pruned heavily to keep it more compact and is a prolific flowerer during the warmer months
Apply a slow release fertiliser at the start of Summer. Magnifica is virtually free of pests and disease.
They do not like frost and prefer a sub tropical to tropical climate.
Bougainvillea magnifica trailii thrives in locations with full sunlight exposure. This trailing variety is excellent for growing along fences, walls, or as ground cover in gardens. It's also well-suited for hanging baskets and large pots. Ensure the area chosen has good air circulation to prevent diseases.
Bougainvillea magnifica trailii prefers a warm, tropical to subtropical climate. It can handle light frost once established, but protection from severe cold is recommended. Optimal growth occurs at temperatures between 18-30°C. In cooler climates, consider growing it in a pot that can be moved indoors during winter.
This Bougainvillea variety prefers well-draining soil. Sandy or loamy soils with good organic content are ideal. It tolerates poor soils but flourishes in nutrient-rich conditions. Ensure the soil is kept moderately moist but not waterlogged, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot.
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. During the blooming season, use a high-potassium liquid fertiliser to enhance flowering. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers as they promote leaf growth over flowers. Over-fertilising should be avoided to prevent root damage.
