Pedro “Bambino” Bougainvillea is a small bushy shrub with green leaves and brick red /terracotta coloured bracts.
Grows approximately 1.5m tall x 1.5m wide.
Requires a warm sunny position and a light pruning after each flush of flowers, followed by a fertiliser high in potassium to promote more flowers.
Pedro 'Bambino' Bougainvillea is best planted in areas that receive full sunlight throughout the day. Its compact size makes it perfect for small gardens, pots, and courtyards. This variety can also be used as a decorative ground cover or a low hedge. Ensure the planting location has excellent drainage and is well-ventilated.
Pedro 'Bambino' Bougainvillea thrives in warm climates, ideally in subtropical to tropical regions. It can withstand mild frost once mature but should be protected from harsh winter conditions. The best temperature range for growth is between 18-30°C. In cooler areas, it can be grown in containers and moved indoors during colder months.
For optimal growth, plant Pedro 'Bambino' Bougainvillea in sandy or loamy soil that is rich in organic matter. The soil should be well-draining to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Although it can grow in poorer soils, the plant will flourish and produce more vibrant blooms in nutrient-rich soil.
Apply a slow-release, balanced fertiliser in early spring to support the plant's growth. During the blooming period, switch to a high-potassium fertiliser to encourage flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, especially with high-nitrogen products, as this can result in excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
