Lemon scented myrtle is an attractive small tree growing 4-6m high and around 3-5m wide.
It should be pruned when young to achieve the desired shape, either as a single trunked tree or screening hedge.
The leaves are highly fragrant and can be used as a flavouring in cooking or made into lemon tea.
It prefers a full sun position.
Lemon Scented Myrtle prospers in full sun to partial shade. It is suitable for growing in gardens, as a feature tree, or in containers. Ensure the location has well-draining soil and good air circulation to prevent disease.
Lemon Scented Myrtle prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate. It can tolerate light frost but should be protected from severe frost and cold winds. Ideal temperatures range between 15-30°C.
Use a well-draining soil. Sandy or loamy soils with good organic matter are ideal. This plant is tolerant of poor soils but will flourish in richer conditions. Ensure the soil remains moderately moist but not waterlogged.
Fertilise your Lemon Scented Myrtle with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. Additional feeding can be done during the growing season with a liquid fertiliser if the plant appears to need a boost.
