Roses

WE HAVE ORDERED  OVER 3,500 ROSES THIS YEAR. They will be ready for release approx. early July 2025

At the start of each year we pre-order approximately 3,000- 4,000 assorted roses from our supplier, which arrive bare rooted and in batches over the following months. So you know exactly what you’re getting, we pot up all of these roses and tend to them until their new foliage and flowers have emerged.

This makes buying the perfect rose much easier than buying bare rooted plants with no foliage or blooms, then having to wait and hope that the colour of the flower is really what you wanted.
We start to release these roses around the start of July onwards.

Within our collection you will find – Hybrid Tea bush roses, Floribunda bush, Climbing roses, David Austin roses, Patio standards, Hybrid tea standards and floribunda standards. Altogether there is approximately 100 varieties to choose from.

The best time to visit us if you’re looking to purchase roses is July – November.

Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Roses thrive in full sun, so choose a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. They can be planted in garden beds or large containers, but ensure the planting site has well-drained soil to prevent waterlogging. Roses also need good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases, so avoid planting them too close to walls or other plants.

Climate

Roses prefer a temperate to warm climate and grow best in temperatures between 15°C and 28°C. They are frost-tolerant but benefit from protection during severe frost. In hotter climates, provide some shade during the hottest part of the day to prevent sunburn on the leaves and flowers.

Soil Type

Plant roses in well-draining soil enriched with organic matter, such as compost. A slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH of 6.0-6.5 is ideal. Roses do not thrive in heavy clay or waterlogged soils, so consider adding sand or perlite to improve drainage if necessary.

Fertilizer

Feed roses with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a fertiliser high in potassium to support flower production and promote strong, healthy growth. Organic options, such as compost or well-rotted manure, can also provide essential nutrients.

Plant Care

Watering

Water roses deeply and regularly, especially during dry periods. Roses prefer consistent moisture, but the soil should not be waterlogged. Water early in the morning to reduce the risk of fungal diseases, and avoid overhead watering to keep the foliage dry.

Pruning

Prune roses in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Regular pruning helps maintain a good shape, encourages air circulation, and stimulates new growth, resulting in more abundant blooms.

Pests

Monitor for common pests such as aphids, thrips, and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Watch for fungal diseases like black spot, powdery mildew, and rust, and ensure good air circulation to prevent these issues.
