The Poinciana is a magnificent specimen tree growing up to 10m high and 10m wide and covered in bright red flowers during the Summer
It is useful in warmer climates as a shade tree due to its wide umbrella canopy.
Prune any low branches when the tree is a juvenile to create this canopy which will allow people to walk under it when it is older.
The Poinciana a great specimen tree in a larger garden or park. You may have to wait up to 6-7 years before the tree flowers, but it is definately worth the wait.
Plant in an open sunny area in well drained soil.
They prefer a tropical climate and will be semi deciduous in colder climates.
