Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Viburnum 'Emerald Lustre' thrives in full sun to partial shade. Choose a location that receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily for best growth and lush foliage. It is an excellent choice for hedges, screening, or as a feature plant in garden beds. Viburnum 'Emerald Lustre' can also grow well in large containers. Ensure the planting site is well-drained to prevent waterlogging, which can affect the roots.

Climate

Viburnum 'Emerald Lustre' prefers a warm, temperate to subtropical climate. It grows best in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. This plant is drought-tolerant once established but benefits from regular watering during dry periods to maintain its lush appearance. In cooler climates, young plants should be protected from frost, though established plants can tolerate light frost.

Soil Type

Plant Viburnum 'Emerald Lustre' in well-draining soil. A loamy or sandy soil enriched with organic matter, such as compost, is ideal. The soil should be slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0-7.0). Viburnum can tolerate a range of soil types but thrives best in soil that is rich in organic matter. Avoid planting in heavy clay or waterlogged soils to prevent root rot.

Fertilizer

Feed Viburnum 'Emerald Lustre' with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring and again in mid-summer. Organic options, such as compost or well-rotted manure, can also provide essential nutrients and help improve soil quality. Regular feeding encourages dense foliage and strong growth, making it an excellent choice for hedges and screening.
