Juniperus taxifolia var. lutchuensis.
Juniper Lutchuensis (*Juniperus chinensis* var. *lutchuensis*) thrives in full sun to partial shade and is an excellent choice for rock gardens, bonsai, and as a low-maintenance shrub in borders. Its compact, conical shape and fine-textured, dark green foliage make it a versatile addition to various garden styles. Ensure the planting site has well-draining soil, as Junipers are susceptible to root rot in overly wet conditions.
Juniper Lutchuensis is suited to temperate to subtropical climates and can tolerate a range of temperatures, including light frost. It is highly drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for low-water-use gardens. This hardy plant can also withstand coastal conditions, including salty winds and sandy soils.
Plant Juniper Lutchuensis in well-draining, sandy or loamy soil. It adapts well to a range of soil pH levels but prefers slightly acidic to neutral conditions (5.5-7.0). Adding organic matter, such as compost, can improve soil quality without creating overly moist conditions.
Feed Juniper Lutchuensis sparingly with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to promote healthy growth. Minimal fertilising is typically needed, as this hardy plant thrives in low-nutrient soils.
