Grevillea
Grevillea Royal Mantle (*Grevillea* 'Royal Mantle') thrives in full sun to partial shade and is commonly used as a ground cover due to its dense, spreading growth habit. It is ideal for slopes, embankments, and areas where erosion control is needed. Its vibrant red toothbrush-shaped flowers attract birds and pollinators, adding wildlife interest to the garden. Ensure the planting site has well-draining soil, as Grevillea Royal Mantle does not tolerate waterlogging.
Grevillea Royal Mantle is well-suited to warm, temperate to subtropical climates and can tolerate light frost once established. It grows best in temperatures between 10°C and 30°C and is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for low-water-use gardens.
Plant Grevillea Royal Mantle in well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5-7.0). Avoid heavy clay soils. Adding organic matter, such as compost, can improve soil structure and support healthy growth but avoid phosphorus-rich fertilisers, as Grevilleas are sensitive to phosphorus.
Use a low-phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support growth and flowering. Organic options, such as compost or blood and bone, can also be beneficial for maintaining soil fertility without risking phosphorus toxicity.
