Gazanias are a very versatile plants with daisy like flowers, useful as rockery plants, borders and ground covers.

A variety of flower colours are available from bright yellow, orange, plum, cream and variegated petals.

The foliage is dark green or a soft grey.

They grow well in full sun in well drained soil and are very hardy drought tolerant plants growing to approximately 20-30cm

Apply a slow release fertiliser at the start of spring to keep them flowering through to the end of summer.

Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Gazania (*Gazania rigens*) thrives in full sun and is well-suited for garden borders, rockeries, and ground cover plantings. It produces striking daisy-like flowers in vibrant shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, and white. Gazania is highly tolerant of coastal conditions, making it a great choice for seaside gardens. Ensure the planting site has well-draining soil, as it prefers dry conditions and does not tolerate waterlogging.

Climate

Gazania is ideal for warm, temperate to subtropical climates and grows best in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. It is highly drought-tolerant and can withstand hot, dry conditions. Gazanias are frost-sensitive, but in mild climates, they can bloom year-round.

Soil Type

Plant Gazania in sandy, well-draining soil. It adapts well to poor, dry soils and thrives in slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.5). Adding compost or organic matter can improve soil quality, but Gazanias generally require minimal soil amendments.

Plant Care

Watering

Water Gazania sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and thrives on minimal water, though occasional deep watering in prolonged dry spells will support flowering.

Pruning

Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming. Trim back leggy growth at the end of the flowering season to promote a more compact, bushy habit.

Pests

Gazania is generally resistant to pests and diseases but may occasionally attract aphids or caterpillars. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Good air circulation helps prevent fungal issues, especially in humid conditions.
