Pyrostegia Venusta
The Orange Trumpet vine is a hardy, evergreen, vigorous climber with soft matt green leaves. During the winter the vine is smothered with bright orange trumpet shaped flowers.
This makes for a spectacular display over a fence, pergola or arbour.
The Orange trumpet vine requires a warm climate in sub-tropical or tropical regions.
It is not frost tolerant, and prefers a warm, full sun position.
Water well until established and prune after flowering.
It can grow up to 10m so give it plenty of room or prune more frequently to keep it under control.
Orange Trumpet Vine (*Pyrostegia venusta*) thrives in full sun for the best flowering results but can tolerate partial shade. Choose a location with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily to encourage its vibrant blooms. This vigorous climber is ideal for covering fences, trellises, and pergolas, adding a stunning display of orange flowers. Ensure the planting site has well-drained soil, as it does not tolerate waterlogging well.
Orange Trumpet Vine prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate and grows best in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. It can tolerate mild frost but may need protection in areas with severe winter cold. This plant flowers profusely during the warmer months, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.
Plant Orange Trumpet Vine in well-draining soil. It adapts well to various soil types, including sandy, loamy, and slightly clay soils, as long as they drain well. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0) is ideal. Adding organic matter, such as compost, will help improve soil structure and promote healthy growth.
Feed Orange Trumpet Vine with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support vigorous growth and blooming. An additional application in mid-summer can help sustain blooms. Organic options, such as compost or well-rotted manure, are also beneficial. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers, as they may encourage foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
