Zulu Bambino Bougainvillea is a dense dark green shrub with profusions of very dark purple bracts
It requires a warm sunny position to flower well.
Prune lightly after flowering, followed by an application of fertiliser high in potash to promote more flowers
Bambino Bougs are a range of smaller growing bougainvillea ideally suited to container growing, topiary, small hedges or smaller sized gardens.
Do not disturb the root ball when planting out. Zulu is best kept to approximately 1-1.5m wide and high.
Zulu 'Bambino' Bougainvillea thrives in full sun. This compact variety is perfect for small gardens, courtyards, and containers. It can also be used as a decorative ground cover or trained along trellises and fences. Ensure the planting location has well-draining soil and good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
Zulu 'Bambino' Bougainvillea prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate. It can tolerate light frost once established but should be protected from severe frost and cold winds. Optimal growth occurs at temperatures between 18-30°C. In cooler regions, consider growing it in pots that can be moved indoors during winter.
This Bougainvillea variety thrives in well-draining soil. Sandy or loamy soils enriched with organic matter are ideal. While it can adapt to poorer soils, it will produce more vibrant blooms in nutrient-rich conditions. Ensure the soil remains moderately moist but not waterlogged to prevent root rot.
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. During the blooming season, switch to a high-potassium fertiliser to promote abundant flowering. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers as they can result in excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers. Be careful not to over-fertilise, as this can damage the roots.
