Bougainvillea Flame is a medium grower with striking red flower bracts and deep green foliage.
It will need support to climb up to its full height of around 3m. Flame is a slower growing variety so will require less pruning and will do well in pots.
Take care with your initial planting out as all bougainvillea are sensitive to having their roots disturbed.
Flame will enjoy a sunny warm frost free position and will be quite drought tolerant once established.
Liquid feed regularly if in pots during the warmer months and feed with a slow release fertilizer at the start of spring and summer if in the ground.
Bougainvillea Flame thrives in full sun. This vibrant variety is perfect for adding a splash of color to gardens, along fences, or in large containers. It can also be trained to climb trellises or pergolas. Select a location with well-draining soil and ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
Bougainvillea Flame prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate. It can tolerate light frost once established but should be protected from severe frost and cold winds. Ideal temperatures range between 18-30°C. In cooler regions, consider growing it in a pot that can be moved indoors during winter.
Use well-draining soil for Bougainvillea Flame. Sandy or loamy soils enriched with organic matter are ideal. While it can tolerate poorer soils, it will perform best in nutrient-rich conditions. Ensure the soil remains moderately moist but not waterlogged to avoid root rot.
Fertilise your Bougainvillea Flame with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. During the blooming season, use a high-potassium liquid fertiliser to promote vibrant flowers. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers as they encourage foliage growth over flowering. Over-fertilising should be avoided to prevent root damage.
