Bougainvillea Fire Opal

Bougainvillea Fire Opal

Bougainvillea “Fire Opal” is the lastest addition to our range of Bougainvillea grown onsite at our Runaway Bay production nursery

Fire Opal is a medium growing Bougainvillea reaching approx 3m in height with stunning Orange/Gold bracts.

Fire opal will thrive in a warm, sunny open position in well drained soil. As with all bougs they require little water once established. Prune lightly after each flowering to encourage repeat flowering.

Plant direct into the ground or into a large tub. Bougainvillea are sensitive to root disturbance so take care when planting.

Fertilise regularly during the warmer months

Plant Growing Tips

Where to Grow

Bougainvillea 'Fire Opal' thrives in full sun. This vibrant variety is perfect for adding a splash of color to gardens, along fences, or in large containers. It can also be trained to climb trellises or pergolas. Select a location with well-draining soil and ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.

Climate

Bougainvillea 'Fire Opal' prefers a warm, subtropical to tropical climate. It can tolerate light frost once established but should be protected from severe frost and cold winds. Ideal temperatures range between 18-30°C. In cooler regions, consider growing it in a pot that can be moved indoors during winter.

Soil Type

Use well-draining soil for Bougainvillea 'Fire Opal'. Sandy or loamy soils enriched with organic matter are ideal. While it can tolerate poorer soils, it will perform best in nutrient-rich conditions. Ensure the soil remains moderately moist but not waterlogged to avoid root rot.

Fertilizer

Fertilise your Bougainvillea 'Fire Opal' with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. During the blooming season, use a high-potassium liquid fertiliser to promote vibrant flowers. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers as they encourage foliage growth over flowering. Over-fertilising should be avoided to prevent root damage.
